Reviving a tradition

The publication of Clark’s Kentucky Almanac and Book of Facts 2006 will revive a Kentucky tradition that is older than the commonwealth itself.   John Bradford, an early legislator and sheriff of Fayette County, was named the official state printer by legislature in 1787 as Kentucky, then a part of Virginia, prepared for statehood.  His press, used to produce the Kentucky Gazette, was used in printing other books and pamphlets—including the Kentucky Almanac—first created in 1787 and date 1788.  The last Kentucky almanac printed until Clark’s 2006 edition was in 1856.
